Superstar Rajinikanth Gets Emotional as He Completes 50 Golden Years in Cinema
(Wednesday, 3rd December 2025)

The 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa turned into a historic celebration as Superstar Rajinikanth, our beloved Thalaivar, was honoured with a prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award—marking his extraordinary 50-year journey in Indian cinema.

Welcomed with a standing ovation, the 74-year-old legend became emotional while reflecting on his cinematic journey. Thalaivar shared that his “50 years in cinema feel like just 10–15 years,” a testament to the passion and love that have defined his career. In a heartfelt moment, he said, “If there are 100 more janams, I would like to be born as an actor—and as Rajinikanth.”

During IFFI, his 2024 film Lal Salaam, directed by his daughter Aishwarya Rajinikanth, was screened to enthusiastic response. Aishwarya expressed pride over the film’s premiere at such a globally recognised platform.

The festival’s closing ceremony celebrated Thalaivar’s unmatched influence across Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada cinema. With over 170 films, countless iconic moments, and honours including the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, and Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Rajinikanth remains one of India’s most beloved cultural icons.

Leaders and fans across the nation also joined the celebration. Earlier this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated him on completing five glorious decades in cinema. Thalaivar warmly thanked the PM, expressing deep gratitude.

IFFI 2025 thus became more than just a festival—it transformed into a grand tribute to an artist whose charisma and legacy continue to shape Indian cinema. As we celebrate this Golden Jubilee, one thing is clear: there is, and will always be, only one Thalaivar.
