Rajinikanth condemns the Pahalgam attacks at the WAVES summit
(Wednesday, 28th May 2025)
Superstar Rajinikanth, speaking at the inaugural World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in Mumbai, condemned the recent Pahalgam terror attack, calling it “barbaric and merciless.” He expressed strong confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing him as a fighter who would rise to the occasion and bring peace to Jammu and Kashmir.
He affirmed his belief that the central government would go ahead with the WAVES Summit despite the tragic incident. “Many people told me that the government might postpone this event due to unnecessary criticism, as it revolves around entertainment. But I was sure it would happen, because I trust my Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji,” Rajinikanth stated.
The Pahalgam attack claimed the lives of over 26 civilians, most of whom were tourists, after five militants opened fire in Baisaran Valley. The Resistance Front (TRF)—suspected to be linked to the Pakistan-based, UN-designated terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba—initially claimed responsibility. In the aftermath, tensions have escalated between India and Pakistan. India responded by suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and closing its airspace to Pakistani flights. Pakistan, in turn, suspended the Simla Agreement, halted trade, and closed its airspace.
“He is a fighter,” Rajinikanth reiterated. “He will rise to this challenge and, as we’ve always believed, face the situation with courage and composure—bringing peace to Kashmir and pride to our nation.”
Rajinikanth also expressed gratitude to the government for organizing the summit, which he said could mark the beginning of a broader global collaboration in the entertainment industry.
In his initial reaction to the Pahalgam tragedy, Rajinikanth demanded swift justice, stating that the terrorists and those behind the attack must be apprehended and dealt with the strictest punishment—one that would act as a strong deterrent against future acts of terrorism.
Other celebrities in attendance at the WAVES Summit included Shah Rukh Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Ranbir Kapoor, and Alia Bhatt.
The WAVES Summit aims to bring together various sectors such as film, OTT, gaming, comics, digital media, AI, AVGC-XR, and broadcasting, showcasing India's growing influence in the global media and entertainment landscape. The event, held from May 1 to May 4, targets unlocking a $50 billion market by 2029.
