The film directed by Soundarya Rajinikanth did amazingly well over the first weekend.
India's first photo realistic 3D film released to tremendous fanfare as the over enthusiastic crowd thronged to the theatres to catch their favourite Superstar Rajinikanth in animated action. The collections of Kochadaiiyaan were staggering as Rajinikanth's Kochadaiyaan has raked up a mammoth Rs. 42 crore at the box office by the end of the first weekend.
Directed by debutant director Soundarya Rajinikanth Ashwin, who also happens to be Thalaiva's daughter, Kochadaiiyaan is running housefull and has been pre-booked till the next mid week. The film has earned Rs 30 crore in India and Rs 12 crore abroad. The Senior V P, India Theatrical, Eros International Media Ltd, Nandu Ahuja stated, “Thalaivar fans have given huge thumbs up to the film which showcases the charisma of their favorite superstar in a never seen before avatar. Advance booking for the opening weekend especially in Tamil Nadu were outstanding and true to Rajni films, the shows opened as early as 5.00 a.m. to capacity audiences with the build-up commencing the night before. As the film continues to attract huge numbers with its high octane action, photo realistic animation and of course Rajinikanth’s larger than life persona, we expect the film to continue wowing audiences.”
The scenes in Tamil Nadu were unreal as big Rajinikanth cutouts were bathed in milk. A leading multiplex opened 100 shows for Kochadaiiyaan for the first day to accommodate the army of Rajini followers. With the sales of satellite telecast rights in different languages along with brand tie ups and income from Kochadaiiyaan - The reign of arrows game, Kochadaiiyaan is all set to cross the magical Rs. 100 crore mark within three days of its release.
